Training Costs

Please email or call for rates. We offer discounts for 6 months and yearly contracts, and multiple retrievers in training together. Returning clients with new retrievers are also given a discount. We can feed BARF Raw diets with confidence.

Entries and Entry Fees

All entry fees are the responsibility of the owner. We will gladly enter your dog, and bill you for the entry fees. If you wish us to enter your retriever in events, you will have to leave funds on account with us for that purpose rather then send us checks for each event. We will prepare a computerized form for your retriever, and will need a copy of your AKC registration to accomplish this. For Toller WC-WCX events, they will need to be registered with the NSDTRC (USA). For HRC Hunt Tests, the retriever will need to be registered with the UKC, and the owner a member of HRC.

Health Requirements For Dogs Sent For Training:

  1. Current Rabies vaccination within a year if the retriever is under a year. Three years if an adult (titer acceptable).
  2. Current Combination vaccine: Parvo and Distemper. Within three years if adult (or titer acceptable), if a young dog or puppy at least two Parvo and Distemper, with the last after 16 weeks. The AAHA has done an extensive study of canine inoculations and recommends every three years as acceptable for the combination shot for adult dogs. Actually research has shown a far longer time, but the AAHA is considered to be a compromise. We recommend inoculating for Lepto with the new vaccine, separately, not as part of the combination shot. While not common, Lepto has been found in North East Texas. We believe in "limited but sensible" vaccination programs.
  3. The retriever must be sent with heartworm preventative. We have had excellent results with Interceptor.
  4. Your retriever must be free of fleas and on a flea preventative. If your retriever has fleas, he will spread it to every dog here. Plus, dogs that have fleas will not doubt have tape worms. Please, if your dog has fleas, get rid of them prior to dropping it off at the kennel. Flea preventative should be water repellent. Promaris seems to do better then Frontline Plus and is the product of choice because it does a better job on ticks then Frontline, at least here.
  5. If the retriever is over 2 years of age we recommend: OFA Hip certification (Pen Hip, or OVC), Current CERF exam. Why? We are doing you a disservice to train an older dog without these clearances. They need good eyesight, and good running gear. Other certifications such as OptiGen, OFA elbows, thyroid, cardiac or other breed specific tests are advised depending on breed. More then likely your retriever will be in a breeding program, and these health tests are necessary.
  6. We realize that some people titer and do not give inoculations on a regular basis. We have even heard of people not vaccinating at all! That might be fine in some areas where these diseases are uncommon. There is a real danger of Parvo and Distemper in North East Texas and indeed most of the USA. We are around water all the time. There is always risk of mosquitoes that can transmit heartworm. Fleas and ticks (but not Lyme) are another pesky problem here. We care enough about our retrievers and yours that we do not want to take any chances. NO EXCEPTIONS.
